5 ways to build trust in your HR role

5 simple things you can do daily to build trust in your HR role

(that don’t involve huge time or strategy)

In HR, even if you are the nicest person in the world, your job title alone may make you intimidating

This is especially true in large organisations when the majority of people may not know you or work directly with you

It is important however to take steps to overcome this to be seen as friendly, approachable and available.

Here are 5 simple ways you can do this for those who only ‘see’ you around the office 👇

1️⃣ Be seen
Walk the floor, get amongst people, eat your lunch in communal areas, hot-desk, spend time in all departments

2️⃣ Actively engage with people
Initiate informal chats in the lunchroom, attend social functions, greet people in the hallways, banter and crack jokes, give compliments

3️⃣ Be mindful of your non-verbal cues
Check your body language and posture, turn your full face and body towards people, hold eye-contact, smile.

4️⃣ Avoid looking busy when you are not
Don’t appear occupied with headphones or on your phone, be present and attentive. Practice engaging with bypassers and be open for quick conversations or questions

5️⃣ Celebrate wins
Take a moment to personally congratulate individuals or teams when they achieve good results or meet their goals. Recognise achievements known to you such as promotions or anniversaries
